HEAVYWEIGHTS SPICE UP THRILLA IN ANGONO
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Jan 2015
Fight fans in Angono, Rizal are in for a rare treat this Feburary 15 when two foreign heavyweights - Rio Hidaka of Japan and David Koswara of Indonesia - clash for the WBC Asia boxing council heavyweight title.
Both boxers are also eager to bounce back from losses, Hidaka (10W-2L,8KO?s) lost to Kotatsu Takehara in a Japanese heavyweight title eliminator while Koswara (11-12-2,4KO?s) was stopped in China by Zhang Junlong.
The Philippines doesn?t have a heavyweight division and it?s been a while since pro boxers in this weight category have been seen on local shores.Boxing fans of course remember the timeless world heavyweight championship bout between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, The Thrilla in Manila, held at the Araneta Coliseum in 1975.
Promoter Aljoe Jaro, who informed philboxing of this match, said that this regional title match will be held at the Angono Sports Complex and will also feature the WBC Asia Super Lightweight championship bout between Takamori Akita of Japan versus Dizon Cag-ong of the Philippines. Jaro also thanked Mayor Geraldo ?Gerry? Calderon and his councilors, Barista Choi Vending Machine Solution Inc. Kapeng Vendo Maaasahan ng Pilipino for supporting the event.
Also set to see action is former WBC and Ring magazine flyweight champion Sonnyboy Jaro versus TBA. There will be another foreign boxer, possibly from Korea on the undercards.
