WBC PRESIDENT SULAIMAN SAYS THE MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO MEGA UNIFICATION FIGHT IS UP TO THE FIGHTERS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 Jan 2015 World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman has said a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, the two biggest icons in the world ?is solely down to the fighters themselves reaching an agreement for what will be an 'epic' clash.? The WBC website noted that Sulaiman has been highly accommodating to Floyd Mayweather Jr, who rules with the World Boxing Council in separate weight divisions at 147 and 154, as the pound for pound king entered negotiations to set-up a grudge match with Manny Pacquiao. Sulaiman said ?All mandatory obligations to Mayweather have been put on hold in a bid to seal a huge pay-per-view offering against the Filipino, possible on May 2 in Las Vegas? and Sulaiman has joined the rest of the boxing world in crossing his fingers in the hope that a deal is imminent. Sulaiman exclusively told World Boxing News on Thursday "This fight is epic. There is world interest like few ever in history, but there are also way too many rumors and speculations." He said "Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao all depends on them wanting to do the fight as the WBC has done its part by not putting any obstacles in the way.? The WBC president indicated "Floyd is the unprecedented welter and super welterweight champion and we have not imposed any mandatory commitments in order to allow the Pacquiao fight to happen. There are so many great fights which can happen in 2015, but everyone wants to see this one." The WBC website disclosed that Mayweather stands to make in the region of $150m for his part in the contest, with WBO title holder Pacquiao in line for a $100m payday.
