CUELLO?S TITLE ELIMINATOR PUSHED BACK AFTER OPPONENT CARLOS ORTEGA LOSES By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 14 Jan 2015 Cuello. The World Boxing Council minimum weight eliminator between former Silver champion Denver Cuello and Panama?s Carlos Ortega has been pushed back after the No.1 ranked Ortega suffered a surprising 9th round TKO loss to 23 year old Ricardo Perez in a WBC Silver championship bout last December 20 in Cancun, Mexico after being dropped in rounds three and four. Cuello?s manager/trainer as well as promoter Aljoe Jaro informed the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that he is ?waiting for a decision by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman? who the new opponent of Cuello would be following Ortega?s loss. Aljoe Jaro said he expects the title eliminator to be held in the last week of March. Among the likely opponents to face the No.2 ranked Cuello is No. 3 ranked 32 year old Raul ?Rayito? Garcia, the former world champion who won the IBF title with a split decision over Filipino southpaw Florante Condes on June 14, 2008 in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz, Mexico despite Garcia being dropped in the 12th round. Garcia also retained his title against another Filipino Rommel Asenjo with a 3rd round TKO on April 30, 2011 and also scored a 3rd round TKO over another Filipino Michael Landero in a scheduled ten round bout on March 3, 2012 but later lost the WBC Silver title to Pedro Guevara on March 30, 2013. Garcia has a record of 36-3-1 with 22 knockouts. Cuello who met with a motorcycle accident a few days ago when his motorcycle skidded on a wet road and Denver suffered some minor bruises according to Aljoe Jaro but is okay although he is not training daily as yet. The hard-hitting Cuello who has a record of 35-5-6 with 23 knockouts will earn a title shot at Thai world champion Wanheng Menayothin whi is undefeated in 36 fights with 12 knockouts should he win his title eliminator.
