DENVER CUELLO RANKED NO.1 MINI FLYWEIGHT BY THE WBC By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 18 Dec 2014 Manager/trainer Aljoe Jaro has been able to secure the No. 1 ranking in the mini flyweight division of the World Boxing Council for his fighter Denver Cuello. Posing with WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman after the discussions, Aljoe Jaro, proudly proclaimed "its a done deal." Aljoe Jaro informed the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that the WBC board of governors ?voted unanimously? in support of Cuello?s No. 1 ranking. The manager said he would discuss with the WBC committee members ?about a mandatory fight for Denver? on December 18, Manila Time. Aljoe Jaro also disclosed that former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro is now ranked No. 5 in the super flyweight division and he ?will push for Sonny Boy to challenge reigning WBC champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras early next year. Both Cuello and Sonny Boy Jaro are coming off victories in their last fights in contrasting fashion before a huge crowd of fight fans at the Angono Municipal Gym. Cuello, the former world title challenger scored an impressive 3rd round TKO over Indonesian journeyman Sammy Hagler while Sonny Boy engaged tough Danilo ?Pit Bull? Pena in an eight round ?stay busy fight? and won a comfortable decision. Cuello is aiming for a title shot at champion Wanheng Menayothin of Thailand. With the win the hard-hitting southpaw improved to 35-5-6 with 23 knockouts. The Filipino fighter lost a twelve round unanimous decision to China?s ZXiong Zhao Zhong at the Dubai International Trade Center on June 28, 2013 after dislocating his rotator cuff early in the bout and forcing him to battle the then champion with one hand for most of the fight. After his win over Hagler, Cuello said ?I?m back and the fans will see the old Denver Cuello? following surgery by a top-notch team of doctors at the Makati Medical Center which he said helped a great deal? along with the assistance of broadcast-journalist Chino Trinidad and Aljoe Jaro himself. The WBC later informed the Standard that after an agreement between IBF, WBA and WBC it was decided to unify this division name to Minimum weight." The former division known as straw weight and mini flyweight, will be now be the minimumweight division.
