TABUGON WINS IBO INTERCONTINENTAL LIGFHT FLYWEIGHT TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Dec 2014 23 year old Filipino Raymond Tabugon, the reigning WBC Asia Boxing Council 108 pound champion has added the International Boxing Organization belt to his growing number of trophies with a twelve round unanimous decision over defending IBO Intercontinental light flyweight champion Luzuke Siyo of South Africa at the Orient Theater in East London. Managed by young Jim Claude Manangquil, the General Santos City southpaw was in control of the fight from the opening bell with solid combinations to win by a comfortable margin on the scorecards of all three judges - 115-112, 115-111 and 116-110. Siyo had won the vacant title from another Filipino, previously undefeated Macrea Gandionco (10-06 KO?s) who retired in the 5th round last June 6. Fighting for the first time abroad in South Africa where its tough to win, Tabugon showed he was capable of handling the challenge and was clearly in great condition. It was Tabudon?s second title having captured the WBC ABCO flyweight belt against Jake Bornea in May in General Santos City. In his last fight on September 9, Tabugon scored a 2nd round TKO over Thai veteran Kaichon Sor Vorapin. Panay News quoted manager Manangquil who said in a post fight interview, ?I am glad that Raymond (Tabugon) won this fight. He is in good condition. I know Luzuko is a tough boxer since he had beaten one of my boxers before.? With the impressive win Tabugon improved his record to 15-3-1 with 6 knockouts while Siyo dropped to 13-3- witgh 10 knockouts. The fight was on the undercard of former WBA featherweight super champion Simpiwe Vetyeka who won the WBA Intercontinental title with a near shutout decision over Mexico?s Arturo Santos Reyes. Vetyeka had earlier lost his title by a unanimous 5th round technical points decision to five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire in Macau last May 31.
