NBA -- Clippers blow out Magic by 28 By Keith Butler PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Dec 2014 LOS ANGELES - After having their way with the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 28 point rout on Monday, the Los Angeles Clippers continued their magical run by beating the Orlando Magic, 114-86, to notch their sixth victory in a row while going 8-1 over the last nine games. It's an impressive run for a team that had a slow start to the season. As for the Magic, playing two of the premier teams in the Western Conference on successive nights is never easy. Blake Griffin had 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Clippers while sharp shooting J.J. Reddick and Chris Paul added 20 and 19 points respectively. DeAndre Jordan had 8 points and 16 rebounds in a clearly lopsided game at Staples Center. The Clippers had great ball movement on the perimeter that created open shots both inside and outside the paint. When asked what the difference has been in the Clippers recent string of six victories, DeAndre Jordan said "we are getting it done on the offensive and defensive ends. We are getting the stops on the defensive side." The Magic simply could not keep pace. Tobias Harris had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Ben Gordon and Victor Oladipo each had 11 points in a losing effort. The Clippers started the game white hot. Reddick could not miss from outside and everything Griffin put up went in. Reddick and Griffin each had 12 pts in the first quarter alone. Meanwhile, it was clear that the Magic was playing the second game in two nights as they lacked energy and allowed the Clippers to score 20 points in the first seven minutes of the game to quickly fall behind by 15 points as the Clippers built a 20-5 lead. Although the Clippers cooled off somewhat by the end of the quarter, the Magic could only cut the lead to eight as the quarter ended 31-23 Clippers. The second quarter was marked by sloppy play and an ejection of the Magic?s Kyle O?Quinn. With the Clippers? subs struggling, Coach Doc Rivers put Griffin, Reddick, and Paul back in the game after an extended rest. The Clippers gained possession of the ball and Griffin immediately took a pass from Paul and drove the lane. O?Quinn plastered Griffin with a hard shot to the face sending Griffin to the floor. The officials and players quickly stepped in to separate Griffin and O'Quinn. After an official review, O?Quinn was given a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game. The quarter ended with the Clippers up 57-44. The rout was on in the third quarter as the Clippers built a 22 point lead and ended the quarter up 84-62. The Clippers never looked back. Coach Rivers started the fourth quarter by going to the bench and giving Griffin, Reddick, and Paul the rest of the night off. All of the Clippers starters played less than 30 minutes allowing the bench to get extended playing time. It is Filipino Night on Saturday, December 6 as the Clippers face the New Orleans Pelicans at the Staples Center. The Magic face the Utah Jazz on Friday in Salt Lake.
