CUELLO PROMISES TO DISPLAY HIS POWER AGAINST HAGLER OF INDONESIA By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 29 Nov 2014 Former World Boxing Council minimumweight challenger Denver Cuello who is ranked No. 4 in the world, is aiming for another crack at the world title currently held by Thailand?s Wanheng Menayothin. Cuello dropped a twelve round unanimous decision to China?s Xiong Zhao Zhong at the International Trade Center in Dubai on June 28, 2013 and told us he ?fought with one hand after he suffered a dislocated rotator cuff? early in the fight. But Cuello, the hard-hitting southpaw said ?I?m back and the fans will see the old Denver Cuello? following surgery by a team of doctors at the Makati Medical Center who he said ?helped a great deal along with broadcast-journalist Chino Trinidad and manager Aljoe Jaro. They want me to get back to the top.? In an interview with reporter Mark Israel of Viva Sports, Cuello said his last fight in Davao was after almost one year of recuperation and therapy following surgery and said ?my comeback fight was good. My opponent from Thailand, Jaipetch Chaiyonggym, was resilient? even though he retired in the 7th round last October 11 in Davao City. He said ?after that win I returned to training and sparred with Rex Tso the Hongkong superstar? who is also trained by Aljoe Jaro. Cuello indicated ?I am not afraid that it (my shoulder) will be dislocated again? even as he thanked his manager ?for his faith in me.? The 27 year old southpaw with a record of 34-5-6 with 22 knockouts will battle Indonesia?s Sammy Hagler in the main event which is considered a tune-up fight. Cuello noted that Hagler ?has not been stopped? and has a record of 18-27-2 with 3 knockouts but promoter/manager Aljoe Jaro told Viva Sports, which will cover the fights on its top-rated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? over Pinoy Box Office on Sky Cable, said Cuello?s ?opponent?s record is not great but he is durable.? Cuello himself believes ?it will be a good fight. He is a good fighter? even as he vowed ?to show my fans who Denver Cuello is.? He said that Hagler was ?like a Manny Pacquiao of Indonesia before but I will try to go for a knockout and show my power.? Former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro who won the WBC crown with a stunning 6th round TKO over longtime champion and WBC 2012 ?Fighter of the Year? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in March 2012 will face rugged Danilo ?Pitbull? Pena in a rematch which Jaro promises will be an exciting battle. Sonny Boy Jaro who is coming off a 6th round TKO victory over Ichal Tobida last June 28 taking his opponent out with a vicious body shot, is ranked No. 10 in the world said ?will try to avenge my loss. I need to win because I have a WBC title fight on February 15? against world champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras of Mexico.? Jaro said ?I will go for a KO. I will win, it will be a war.? He is dead set on avenging his 4th round knockout loss to Pena in the same Angono venue on June 1, 2007 when he was dropped twice in the 4th round and lost. Sonny Boy Jaro promises it will be different this time. Jaro said ?I will go for a KO. I will win, it will be a war.? The 32 year old Pena who has a record of 26-20-3 with 11 knockouts conceded that he took the fight on short notice but will himself try to go for a knockout. Promoter Aljoe Jaro said the promotion is sponsored by Barista Choi Vending Solutions Inc., and he is looking forward to ?an exciting evening of boxing. I want good fights. Although Cuello was very impressive in his win in Davao he appeared scared to use his right hand. I told him use it. He revealed ?this is important because we will talk about a possible world title fight in February or March against champion Amnat Ruenroeng. It's been a long time that Denver has been after the title. I am 100 percent sure he?ll be a world champion next year.? Aljoe Jaro was certain ?the fans will be happy.?
