PACQUIAO-ALGIERI TICKETS SOLD OUT

PhilBoxing.com

MACAU, China ? Tickets in the Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri World Boxing Organization welterweight championship bout set Sunday would have been sold out by today, three days before the scheduled showdown.

That is if Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is to be believed.

Arum, who will turn 83 next month, disclosed that at the end of office hourS Wednesday, sale of tickets in the 15,000-seat Cotai Arena inside the glamorous Venetian Resort Hotel here, had hit 95 to 96 percent.

?In an hour today (Thursday in Macau) we expect to dispose off all the 13,500 seats available for sale,? Arum told this writer in an interview two hours after lunch. ?That is because we have allocated the rest of the non-revenue 1,500 tickets to VIPs and prominent guests.?

The Harvard law school graduate said better handling of publicity and promotional aspects this year helped a lot in the improved sales of tickets compared to last year when Top Rank and Sands China Ltd. jointly ventured to bring big-time boxing to the East.

?Let me just say that we?ve learned from our mistakes last year. Every mistake we committed last year have been corrected,? Arum said.

?Everything is going good,? Arum exclaimed. ?Everybody is happy with the way things have been going. The fighters are cooperating and doing their share in the publicity and promotions. I?m very pleased.?

?Big-time boxing is being firmly established in China as well as in other parts of Asia,? the Hall of Fame promoter claimed. ?Asia?s most famous fighter in Pacquiao will box in a big event here and the whole of Asia for the second time.?

?If the historic Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios fight we held for the first time last year turned out spectacular, this Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri will be much, much better.?

The fight, according to Arum, will be seen live in 150 countries. Sunday?s fight will be the Sarangani Congressman?s only third outside of the United States since rising into fame 14 years ago.

For Algieri, holder of two master?s degrees, it will be his first outside of the U.S.
