MABAIT CONFIDENT OF BEATING WBC SUPER FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION CUADRAS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 11 Nov 2014 Mabait. The World Boxing Council reports that Filipino Marvin Mabait who has a record of 19-2-2 with 13 knockouts has expressed confidence that he can beat reigning WBC super flyweight champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras of Mexico in their title fight on November 13 in Washington D.C. Mabait who replaced former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro who apparently had visa problems told the WBC ?This is such a great opportunity for me. I have seen several of Cuadras? fights. I am sure I can defeat him.? The confident Mabait assured that he had ?a great preparation in my country (Philippines) and I am really motivated to have this opportunity to win the WBC title. I will put everything I have into this fight so I can take the belt back home with me.? The popular 26 year old Cuadras won the title with an 8th round unanimous technical decision after suffering a nasty cut over his left eye in a battle with Thailand?s world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on May 31 this year and then successfully defended the title in a 4th round technical draw against Jose Salgado last September 20. The 26 year old Mabait, on the other hand, is coming off a 5th round knockout loss to tough Mexican Alejandro Hernandez last March 28 in a battle for the WBO Intercontinental bantamweight championship. The WBC website said Mabait ?has the best opportunity of his life? in the clash with Cuadras in a title fight that is aimed at raising funds in an event called ?Fight Night? which was created 25 years ago by Joseph E. Robert Jr . the founder of ?Fight for Children.? The WBC added ?It?s a way to generate resources to help low income kids in the nation?s capital. Its aim then, and now, is to help provide opportunities for brighter futures.? Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
