NBA -- Magic outlast Timberwolves in overtime, 112-103 By Roman David Garay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 09 Nov 2014 MIAMI- Three of the top 10 rookies of the 2014 NBA draft were showcased at the Amway Center in Orlando Friday night. Magic rookies Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon combined for 32 points and 11 rebounds and as they outclassed the top player of their draft class, Andrew Wiggins, who was limited to only 6 points in 25 minutes for the night. "This is why they drafted me,"Gordon told NBA.com post-game. "They know what I can do. My number was called and I was ready to go. I don't want to hear about (age). That would be a crutch, and I don't want any part of it." Gordon, the 4th pick overall on that draft night in June scored 6 of his career-high 17 points in overtime including a crucial three-pointer from the baseline to give the Magic 106-99 lead with 1:36 left in overtime. The Magic (2-4) closed the game from there and claimed their second straight victory after losing its first four games of the season. Orlando out-rebounded Minnesota 52-38 and shot 50 percent from the beyond the three point line. The Magic rookies had some veteran support from Tobias Harris who finished with a double double, 17 points and 16 rebounds. Center Nikola Vucevic also added 20 points and calmly sunk 2 free throws to tie the ballgame at 94 all with 11.9 sec left. Minnesota guard Kevin Martin led his team with a game-high 21 points but he missed the potential game-winning jumper in the final seconds of regulation. Big man Nikola Pekovic and Corey Brewer added in 16 points a piece for the Wolves. Minnesota lost its star point guard Ricky Rubio in the second quarter. Rubio went down with an ankle injury with 2:28 minutes left in the first half. He was helped off the floor and was taken to the locker room. "We're going to evaluate it tomorrow," coach Flip Saunders said. "They took X-rays; there are no breaks, but he popped it pretty good so we're going to have to wait and see where it's at." Minnesota (2-3) has now lost seven in a row in Orlando. The team will travel down south to face the Miami Heat Saturday.
