WBC LAUNCHES ?BOXING FOR A SAFER MEXICO? By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 29 Oct 2014 In an initiative by World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC has launched the commendable social program ?Boxing for a safer Mexico? among students in an effort to combat crime. Sulaiman was joined in the undertaking by former greats Erik ?El Terrible? Morales and Isaac ?Tortas? Bustos as well as another fine Mexican champion Edgar Sosa and held what was described as ?a master class? with dozens of students at the secondary 91 school in Tepito. The WBC reported that as part of the activities of the social program, the former champions ?gave motivational speeches, explaining how they, with talent combined with blood, sweat and tears reached the pinnacle of the boxing world. The WBC website said ?their absorbing words which were eagerly digested, visibly motivated and inspired the youngsters? where more the one hundred students sat enthralled. The main goal of the program is to deflect and eradicate violence and is a combined effort of the Mexican federal government and the WBC. The WBC president and the famous champions were joined by Federal tourism sub secretary Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez and were greeted by School Principal Norma Tellez. Sulaiman for his part urged the young who are the hope of the future to choose ?the positive path to justice and good? pointing out that ? practicing sports instead of part of a gang is the way to make a life and secure a future.? The WBC president explained that ?boxing is a noble activity and that after the final bell or at the conclusion of the fight, the boxers hug and congratulate each other, recognizing each others bravery and effort.? The WBC gifted those who attended with T shirts autographed by the champion boxers. Sosa and Bustos along with some of the kids put on gloves on the second day of the program with the conclusion on Saturday in a fight card at the Arena Coliseo.
