2019 NBA All-Star Game -- KD bags MVP honors in Team LeBron's win

CHARLOTTE -- Kevin Durant tendered a sizzling performance that garnered him MVP honors in the 68th edition of the annual NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night at a full capacity Spectrum Center here in downtown Charlotte.

The Golden States Warriors ace hit 10 of 15 field goals, including six of nine triples, to finish with 31 and lift Team LeBron past Team Giannis, 178-164. Klay Thompson had 20 points while James and Kawhi Leonard each had 19. Kyrie Irving and James Harden combined for 25 points.

In his final All-Star appearance, Dwyane Wade had seven points and four dimes while logging 11 minutes for Team LeBron, which made 68 of 135 field goals (50.4 percent) and 35 of 90 threes (38.9 percent).

"It's all sweet to me. I mean, it's hard to rank. Everything is special. But it's cool to be out there with some of the best players to ever play the game, and to win an MVP here in front of my family and friends is pretty sweet. I just keep trying to rack them up, I guess," Durant said when asked about the importance of his recent hardware compared to the other he has already won in his stellar career.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Team Giannis with 38 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Khris Middleton, The Greek Freak's teammate with the Milwaukee Bucks, and Paul George registered 20 apiece while Oklahoma City Thunder juggernaut Russell Westbrook added 17.

But Team Giannis couldn't hold on to a 13-point halftime advantage and were overrun in the third quarter, 50-36, setting the stage for an exciting fourth quarter where Team LeBron finished the show with a 46-33 run. Dirk Nowitzki, playing in what is thought to be his last All-Star Game and the 14th in his career overall, made the most of his three minutes and 58 seconds of play as he drilled 3-for-3 from long distance ,

When asked to reflect about that fact that this would be his last time in this All-Star stage, Nowtizki said "Yeah, I think all that is going to be emotional once I sit back and get some time to think. But now, I was just out there competing. It was fun and the whole week was great. They had me running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Friday, I was coaching. Yesterday, I was shooting (in the 3-point contest). And today, I was competing. It was fun. I'm going to soak it all in. I think I'm going to get more emotional later when it is all said and done."
