SOUTHPAW Joey “The Babyface” Canoy, who failed to have a fight with undefeated WBO and WBA reigning champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo of Puerto Rico will now have a match on October 10 in General Santos City
“It will be a tune-up fight,” said the 32-year-old Canoy [25-5-2, 5KOs].
The opponent is not yet confirmed by his manager JC Manangquil, president of Sanman Boxing.
“We continue to focus on training. Just so I'm always ready,” said Canoy, who is rated no. 5 in the World Boxing Organization [WBO] and no. 9 in the World Boxing Association [WBA],
Canoy currently weighs 113 pounds, but he will be at 105 by the time of the fight.
He is currently trained by coach Alas King Edurot.
Canoy was supposed to challenge undefeated WBO and WBA reigning champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo of Puerto Rico last June 20 in California, USA. But the flight was cancelled because of a passport problem.
“It will be good if I win this on October 10, maybe next is the world title,” said Canoy.
Canoy has sparred with former Philippine Youth light flyweight champion Kurt John Pabular [9-2-0, 5KOs] of Bansalan, who recently stopped Kazuma Aratake of Japan in the 8th round last September 8 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
