HAYA VS MUKHLIS FOR WBO ASIA PACIFIC BELT IN SURABAYA

SURABAYA, INDONESIA--Filipino brawler Weng 'Baliangao Thunder' Haya attempts to bring home the prestigious WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title when he goes up against grizzled Indonesian veteran Roy Mukhlis in the 12-round mainer here tonight at the GOR Hay am Wuruk military stadium.

Both Haya and Mukhlis came in at 131 lbs during official weigh-in held yesterday at a military facility here, supervised by WBO representative Antonio Comia as appointed by WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo.

Mukhlis (25 wins, 3 losses with 20 KO's) once vied for the WBA world title against Japan's Takashi Uchiyama, losing via fifth round TKO. He previously held other regional titles but indicated the WBO belt is something very important.

The Filipino Weng Haya, however, is confident knowing he has had three months to prepare for this important fight, indicating that after he wins tonight, he wants a crack at WBO world champion Ricky Burns.

'I trained long and hard for this fight. Mukhlis will feel that tonight,' Hay a told Philboxing.com in an interview at the Grand Darmo Suites where he and trainer Celso Epanto are billeted.

Tonight's fight is expected to be a sold-out event based on the media turnout and fan interest at yesterday's weigh-in.
