Megrino to Battle Cuadras for WBC Super Flyweight Belt in M?xico By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Aug 2014 Tough Filipino veteran Rey Megrino (21-20-3, 18 KO's) of the Highland Boxing Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet, will embark in the most important fight of his life when he challenges 26-year-old unbeaten Mexican slugger Carlos "El Pr?ncipe" Cuadras (30-0, 24 KO's) for the WBC Super Flyweight World Crown on September 20 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, M?xico. The fight contract with the Mexican promotion company has been signed and Rey Megrino, 28, has intensified training in Benguet ahead of his trip to Mexico. For Megrino, the battle will be a step up in weight class into the 115 lbs. division. In the past the Misamis Occidental native has fought as Jr. Flyweight and Flyweight, being the current the WBC # 9 112-pounder. But a tall flyweight Megrino (slightly taller than Cuadras), is a fighter up to the challenge. "Yes, he is ready to rumble. In fact, Megrino has fought all over Asia, facing some of the world's best warriors in the lower divisions. His many journeys have made him an experienced and dangerous boxer; and capturing the world title in Mexico is what Megrino wants. "So he looks forward to mixing it up hard with Carlos Cuadras and I will be there in Mexico to assist him," said Megrino's long time manager Brico Santig, 38, director of Highland Boxing Stable. Brico is also the manager of Filipino IBO Jr. Flyweight World Champion Rey Loreto. The fight with Megrino will be Cuadras' first title defense of the WBC world crown that he claimed by defeating former Thai world champ Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last May in Ciudad de M?xico. On paper, the more accomplished Mexican looks favorite to retain his green belt, though in boxing we never know. Will Carlos Cuadras be able to easily deal with the tough Megrino to retain his coveted WBC world title belt? Or will the Filipino Rey Megrino rock the undefeated Carlos Cuadras in his own land of Mexico to fulfill his dreams of becoming a champion of the world? If Megrino punished and knocked out the WBC champion of the decade Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (90-5-2, 47 KO's) in his land of Thailand, is it possible that he could also defeat Carlos Cuadras in Mexico? We'll find out on September 20. The Cuadras VS Megrino rumble for the WBC Super Flyweight Belt in Los Mochis, Mexico, is a production of the Mexican promotion company Promociones del Pueblo to be aired live on TELEVISA.
