Triple G puts another electrifying show with TKO win over Daniel Geale in The Garden

PhilBoxing.com

New York - In what is supposed to be his toughest challenge in the thirty times he stepped in the ring, Gennady "GGG" Golovkin made this one looked easy - really easy.

The undefeated knockout artist from Kazakhstan did what he did best Saturday night at the iconic Madison Square Garden - that is to knock his opponents out in an emphatic manner.

Golovkin stopped two-time Middleweight champ, Daniel Geale of Australia in the 3rd round of his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization Middleweight title defense in front of an animated crowd that admired another one of his highlight-making performance in the ring.

He methodically chopped down a very mobile Geale who was smart to avoid his hard punches in the first round - and it did not take him that long to do it.

Golovkin dropped Geale in the middle of the 2nd round with a barrage of right hooks with one of them sending the Australian fighter down. He also cut him in the corner of his right eye which drew the attention of the doctor at ringside and Geale's corner.

But Geale did not panic - not just yet. He fought back after the knockdown and started the 3rd displaying elaborate head movements which made Golovkin miss with his shots.

Gennady Golovkin (R) answers questions from the media during the post fight press conference Saturday night.

But he was lulled into an exchange which was probably never a smart move against the hardest puncher in the game. Golovkin hurt him bad with a well-placed right hand to his jaw.

Geale caught Golovkin with a right which moved the champion's head backwards but Golovkin held his ground and answered with a straight right hand that ended the night for Geale.

Wobbly and hurt, Geale was up before Referee Mike Ortega finished his count but he is hurt and his face, his eyes and his movements showed it.

That was all it took for Ortega to stop this fight and possibly saved Geale from complete annihilation in the hands of the Kazakh monster.

Golovkin's growing reputation as boxing's most feared practitioner is on full display at "The Mecca of Boxing " in front of a thrilled New York audience that cheered and accepted him hugely tonight.

"The knockout was important to me, not just for me but for the show," Golovkin said after the fight.

It was his 27th knockout, it was his 17th straight knockout, it was a beauty.

In the co-feature of the night, Bryant Jennings of Philadelphia defeated Mike Perez of Cuba by the way of Ireland by a Split Decision in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight Title Eliminator.

Jennings rallied strong in the second half of the fight to overcome Perez's early lead in the scorecards. Perez slowed down in the 7th and he showed early signs of exhaustion which benefited Jennings. The undefeated Philly fighter landed better shots against Perez in the 7th which the judges liked. Perez was slow to react and was getting hit easily unlike in the first six rounds where he was jabbing and moving well.

The scores were 115-112, 114-113 and 113-114 in favor of Jennings who is now in line to face newly minted WBC Heavyweight champion, Bermane Stiverne in the future.
