PRISONER SEEKS FREEDOM WITH BOXING WIN
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Mar 2007
Convicted drug smuggler Siriporn Thaveesuk is seeking her freedom by hopefully defeating Japan’s Ayaka Miyano to win the vacant WBC female light flyweight title.
Siriporn who has already spent six years in prison after being sentenced to ten years for peddling methamphetamine pills believes a win over the fancied Japanese would secure an early release on parole and enable her to return to her trade as a shopkeeper in her hometown in Lop Buri.
The Thai girl who carries the nickname “Samson” will battle Miyano in a makeshift arena in front of the Klong Prem Central Prison on April 3 with respected international referee Bruce McTavish who has made his home in Angeles City in the Philippines chosen as referee because of his excellent showing in previous fights. One of the fights involved Siriporn’s minimum weight title fight against another Japanese Nanako Kikuchi last May.
The Nation newspaper quoted Siriporn who turns 25 on April 26 as saying “I have been training much harder for this fight. I lost last time because I was inexperienced. I have learned from my past mistakes and I will do my best for my country.”
The Thai girl added, “I just want to prove that jailbirds can make good of their lives, no matter what they did in the past. The hard training and the strict discipline I have been through will help me start my life again”
The southpaw Sirporn has a record of 7-2 with 2 knockouts while Miyano who is known as the charming female Ninja has a record of 4-2-1 with no knockouts.
