NEW ORLEANS ? Despite dressing only nine players, the New Orleans Pelicans turned back the Los Angeles Clippers, 98-96, Wednesday night at the Smoothie King Center.
It was an impressive performance for the Pelicans, who won for the eighth time in 11 games. They hosted the Clippers without Eric Gordon, Brian Roberts and Austin Rivers.
Reserve Anthony Morrow led the way with 27 points while All-Star Anthony Davis had 16 and 13 boards. Darius Miller also turned in 16 and Alexis Ajinca added 14 and 11 boards as the Pelicans improved to 31-40.
?We put our jerseys on, we pray before we go out there on the floor. We believe in our talent and the work we put in.? Pelicans coach," a very pleased New Orleans head coach Monty Williams told reporters after the game.
?You?ll never know what can happen but if you believe you?re gonna lose, you l got no shot. From that point on, our guys just stepped up.? He added.
Jamal Crawford lit the scoreboard for 31 points while Blake Griffin tossed 21 for the Clippers. But All-Star Chris Paul missed all 12 of his field goals and was held to 2 points with 12 assists.
Despite the setback, the Clippers remained on top of the Pacific Division with a stellar 50-22 record. (AIJ).
