RUBILEN AMIT REPEATS AS SAC-SMB CEBU SPORTS? ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Mar 2014

CEBU CITY - The 2013 Women?s World Ten Ball championship, World Mixed Doubles championship with living legend Efren Reyes and gold medal in the 2013 South East Asian (SEA) games made Rubilen Amit stand out in a star-studded field of Cebu athletes.
The Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) bestowed upon her the honor of being named ATHLETE OF THE YEAR during the 32nd edition of the SAC-San Miguel Beer (SMB) Cebu Sports Awards held Wednesday afternoon at the Ayala Center in Cebu City.
She was also chosen as Athlete of the Year during the 28th staging of the event when she won the World 10 Ball title for the first time.
Amit, who hails from Mandaue City, Cebu, was not able to make it to the event and her award was accepted by her uncle. She won against Kelly Fisher of England in the finals of the World 10-Ball last November 4, 2013 at the Resorts World Manila. Amit?s closest rival for the honor was last year?s Athlete of the Year, Mikeala Calamba, a two time world champion in the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Also attending the event and among the major awardees were WBO world light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, who was the 2011 Athlete of the Year in the 29th edition of the SAC awards, former WBO minimumweight champion Merlito Sabillo and IBF world light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero.
Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Tony del Prado, Presidential Award to Glen Nava and ORLACSAN Award to Frank Gatdula.
The Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) ?SMB Awards are the Oscar?s of Cebu sports and are given to Cebu born or Cebu based athletes who have excelled at the national and international level.
