Chess: Bernardino sweeps PNRI/PNRIEU simul game in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines ? Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. performed a simultaneous chess exhibition matches and won all his games, 10-0, versus top Philippine Nuclear Research Institute-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute Employess Union (PNRI/PNRIEU) players held Monday at the PNRI Auditorium in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
The rare 10-board simultaneous chess exhibition aimed to promote camaraderie and strengthen friendship with other employees of PNRI/PNRIEU, according to 3rd Vice President, Jorge R. Sahagun, PNRIEU Chair, Social, Cultural and Sports Committee. It coincided with the PNRI/PNRIEU Intercolors Sportsfest 2014.
?This rare 10-board simultaneous chess exhibition is not about winning or to duel with invited chess master but to give you an opportunity to gather, to know each other, and to have fun in through sports,? Sahagun said.
Bernardino, Sahagun, engineer Ricardo Paragua (father of chess grandmaster Mark Paragua), Dr. Vangeline K. Parami and Dr. Christina Petrache, graced the opening rites.
Bernardino, an incoming sports consultant of the office of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, is fresh from back-to-back Bangkok, Thailand chess title last month.
Bernardino is the head coach of Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA) Villamor Airbase, Pasay campus chess team who nabbed 4 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal during the SCUAA-NCR chess team championships last December.
