NEW ORLEANS -- All-Star Anthony Davis notched 30 points, 11 rebounds and three steals and the New Orleans Pelicans upset the Miami Heat, 105-95, at the Smoothie King Center.
As the Pelicans reached the century mark, free McDonald's sandwiches and fries were given to fans in attendance. And it was double the pleasure for the Pelicans fans who haven't seen their team beat the Heat since November 2010.
?Turnovers, you know, they are the No. 1 in the league and tonight we only turned it over 9 times for 11 points. It?s a big deal.? New Orleans head coach Monty Williams told reporters during his post-game press conference, clearly pointing a finger on one of the factors that gave the Pelicans the win.
?It?s just so cool to do that in front of your own crowd, cheering on their feet as we are winning over the defending champs.? He added.
Key Pelicans reserve Anthony Morrow chipped in 10 points, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Tyreke Evans added 16 points and Alexis Aminu finished with 12 markers and eight boards.
Head coach Erick Spoelstra?s Miami Heat noted his team's recent struggles and said, " We have to play much better and much more committed, defensively. If we want to develop a champion team, we should be. No excuses.?
?He is young and he is a future MVP on this league, and I should say it.? Coach Spo referring to Pelicans All Star, Anthony Davis.
?It is just frustrating. We have to be on the same page on what we have to do.?
Lebron James led the vanquished Heat with 25 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Mario Chalmers added 19 and Michael Beasley logged 16. (AIJ)
