World Champs Elcock & Oakey Headline Special UK Charity Event This Saturday

PhilBoxing.com

Former World Boxing Union (WBU) Champions Wayne Elcock and Tony ?Oakey Kokey? Oakey are set to go toe to toe this coming Saturday, when they headline the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, in association with the World Boxing Union, special Charity Spar-Box event, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, at the Menzies Prince Regent Hotel, in Chigwell, Essex on Saturday 22nd February 2014.

Portsmouth?s Tony Oakey won the vacant WBU World Light Heavyweight title, beating Ukrainian Kostyantyn Shvets, at the York Hall in London back in March 2002.

Just two months later Tony successfully defended his newly won crown, against Coventry?s Neil Simpson, and again just five months later against Estonia?s Andrej Karsten.

Tony started the 2003 season in excellent form, beating Leicester?s Neil Linford to retain his coveted crown in March 2003.

Tony?s reign as WBU Champ came to end in October 2003, when he lost by split decision to local rival Matthew Barney.

Tony went on to secure further Championship accolades, British Light Heavyweight Champion 2007/8, International Masters Champion as well as winning the Prizefighter tournament before retiring in 2010.

Wayne Elcock secured the WBU World Middleweight title, with a solid points win over then Champ Anthony Farnell, at the M.E.N Arena in Manchester in April 2003, unfortunately the Brummie battler only got to defend it once, losing his hard earned crown to Scotland?s Lawrence Murphy in November the same year.

Following his reign as WBU World Champion, Wayne also continued to add Championship accolades, winning both the English and British (twice) Middleweight titles, as well as the WBF International crown, before retiring in 2009

Tony and Wayne had sparred each other during their esteemed careers, so when the opportunity came up to be involved both men volunteered to face each other in an instant.

Other star names competing on Saturday night, to raise funds for the Indee Rose Trust, are some serious top flight talent, including, WBU Lightweight World Champ Graham Earl, WBO Super Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook, WBO Middleweight Champion Jason Matthews, British and European Bantamweight Champion Ian Napa, British & European Cruiserweight Champ Terry Dunstan, British Super Bantamweight Champion Matthew Marsh, British Champion Patrick Mullins, Southern Area Champion and WBU Middleweight challenger Gary Logan, Southern Area Light Middleweight Champ Tony Hudson as well as Gary Barron, Mark Ford, Joe Elfidh, Lee Beavis, along with TRAD TKO Coaches Ben Doughty, Brian O?Shaughnessy, Tony Cesay and Michael Sprott?s coach Andrew Edge

Besides the many star boxers competing, there will also be a number of other Champions in attendance, including WBU Bantamweight World Champion Johnny Armour, WBU Light Middleweight World Champion Wayne Alexander, two time, two division World Champion Steve ?Celtic Warrior? Collins amongst others.

Speaking from his home in Atlanta, Georgia, USA World Boxing Union President Don ?Moose? Lewis said of the event.

"It is a great honor for World Boxing Union to be involved in such a great event, especially one that benefits such a worthwhile cause as the Indee Rose Trust.

As a principle in the boxing organization, I am thrilled to see so many former WBU Champions and contenders lend their time and efforts to raise funds for charity.

In today's world, it?s hard to anyone to give their time, yet these stars are giving their time freely, as so many of them and current boxers have done every year from what I understand.

Not only is this a very worthy cause, but also it will be great for the fans to be able to watch these great Champions back in action once more.

I hope all boxing aficionados will attend or donate to the charity."

The TRAD TKO Boxing Gym Charity Boxing Event, in association with the World Boxing Union and in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, takes place at the Menzies Prince Regent Hotel, Manor Road, Chigwell, Essex IG8 8AE on Saturday 22nd February 2014.

Tickets, priced ?80 (inclusive of an evening of boxing, three course meal and after party) are available from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town or through the TKO Box Office ? www.tkoboxoffice.com or call the ticket line on 07960 850645.
