PHL THAI BASED WHIZ KID TO COMPETE IN US CHESS CIRCUIT

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA, Philippines -- A six year old Filipino, Thailand based whiz kid James Henry Cabalu Calacday is fresh from winning 2nd place finish in U-8 category of 6th IWICA youth Chess championship last February 8 in Bangkok, Thailand.

James Henry is now in a rigid training with National Masters Ryan Dungca and Leonardo Alidani for his next International Tournament. National Master Rudy Ibanez will also help James Henry in a series of chess training if the latter will be (James Henry) in Manila.

The only son of husband-and-wife tandem Henry and Regina Cabalu Calacday of Gainsfield Chess and Language Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, James Henry has invited to play in some chess tournaments in the United States.

Henry, a former Tarlac champion and is currently based in Bangkok is very excited to see his son to play in the Las Vegas International Chess Festival on June 12 to 15 at the Riviera Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.

"Pangarap kong maging grandmaster ang anak ko sa larangan ng chess kaya full support kami ni Misis (Regina Cabalu Calacday)," said proud father Henry.

Henry is a great fan of Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre and Hydra GM Wesley So.

His son also got an invitation to play in the Continental Chess Association (CCA) Chicago Open on May 22 to 26 in Wheeling, Illinois, and the tough World Open on June 30 to July 6 in Arlington, Virginia.

But first James Henry is looking forward to play in the 14th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2014 on April 12 to 19 at the Dusit Thani in Bangkok.

James Henry along with 7 years old World Youngest Fide Master Alekhine Fabiosa Nouri spearheaded the campaign of the Philippine Age Group chess team who won 65 medals in standard, rapid and blitz events during the last year's 14th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The team collected 24 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 13 bronze medals, a marked improvement from 12-36-9 gold-silver-bronze haul in 2012 edition in Vietnam.-Marlon Bernardino-
