CHICAGO -- Toronto broke a close game wide open with a 15-3 fourth quarter run and the Raptors went on to dispose the New Orleans Hornets, 108-101, Monday night at the Air Canada Air Centre.
With still 6:35 left to play, the Raptors clung to a slim 89-86 as the Pelicans stormed back from an 18-point deficit. But the Raptors, playing behind their supportive home fans, took care of business and built their advantage back to 100-89.
Patrick Patterson and DeMar DeRozan led the Toronto charge with 22 each while Kyle Lowry drilled 19. Terrence Ross added 14 and Tyler Hansbrough had 12 and six boards as the Raptors stayed in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-24 record.
Tyreke Evans finished with 23 points and 10 boards in a losing effort while All-Star bound Anthony Davis accounted for 19 markers and seven rebounds. Brian Roberts chipped in 18 and Eric Gordon had 10 for New Orleans.
The Pelicans lost despite shooting 39 of 77 field goals (50.6 percent) and 6-of-12 triples (50 percent). With their second consecutive defeat, the Pelicans dropped to 22-29 for 12th place in a tough Western Conference. (Homer D. Sayson)
