Bobby Gunn & Glen Johnson clash tonight in Bethlehem, PA & LIVE around the WORLD on GFL.tv PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Dec 2013 Tonight starting at 7pm EST, will be a MONUMENTAL night for Boxing fans all over the world, when XFE presents "Warrior versus Warrior" from the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA which will be broadcasting LIVE around the WORLD on GFL.tv! The main event, which has the potential of being 2013 "Fight of the Year" written all over the fight, will see BKB Heavyweight Champion Bobby "The Celtic Warrior" (21-5-1) square off with Former muti-time World Champion Glen "The Road Warrior" Johnson (52-18-2) for the WBU Cruiserweight Championship. Bobby Gunn, who became the 1st man to capture the lineal BKB championship in 2011, will be returning to the ring for the 1st time since losing to future Hall of Famer James Toney, a fight in which he fought the entire time with a broken hand. Gunn, who was originally slated to face another future Hall of Fame fight Roy Jones Jr., was excited to hear that he was receiving a stiffer test in the well traveled Johnson. "To be honest with you, this is a way tougher fight" said Gunn, who battled Enzo Maccarinelli, Tomasz Adamek and James Toney. "It's been a dream of mine to Roy Jones Jr as long as I can remember but he backed out only a few weeks before fight night. I'm very thankful that Glen Johnson accepted the bout on short notice. He's fought everybody you can think of and was on the wrong end of a lot of bad decisions. This is a very dangerous fight for me but I'm a fighter and what fighters do is fight. I know he's never been knocked out before and was only stopped on his feet once but he's also never faced a solid cruiserweight. My goal is to end the fight early and take my frustrations (over the Jones situation) out on Johnson." His opponent Glen "The Road Warrior" Johnson, has made quite a name for himself for his consistent championship level performances and the sheer fact that he is always willing to travel to his opponents back yard to accomplish a goal. Johnson' biggest victory was a 9th round KO over a prime Roy Jones Jr. Johnson drubbing of Jones Jr was even more impressively followed up with a 12 decision victory over Antonio Tarver for the Light Heavyweight Championship of the World. These 2 spectacular feats earned "The Road Warrior", 2004 "Fighter of the Year". Not only is Johnson known for his willingness to fight his opponents anywhere & anytime while performing on a Championship level, he is also known for possessing one of the most solid chins in boxing. Johnson, has only been stop by living legend Bernard Hopkins in a middleweight title bout 16 years ago. In his last 2 Championship fight, Johnson has came up short on the judge's scorecards. His lost to IBF Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch, left many observers scratching their heads thinking Johnson did more than enough to earn the victory against the Englishman. Even though Johnson has faced a who's who of future Hall of Fame fighters, he knows he is facing and incredibly tough task when he steps in the ring with former champion Bobby Gunn, at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA & LIVE around the WORLD on GFL.tv! "I know he's a former champion with a great record and I respect him," Johnson said of Gunn. "He's a natural cruiserweight and has fought some big names. This is my first fight at cruiserweight and there's definitely some risk with doing that but I'm looking forward to the challenge. I've been working on some new stuff (in the gym) and I feel energized again. I needed a break from boxing and now I feel like a new fighter. I'm looking forward to the 18th and am excited about getting in the ring to show what I still have." Promoter David Feldman, CEO of XFE, exclaimed, "Expect the unexpected. This could be cruiserweight fight of the year! This is each fighters last hurrah. All I can say is fireworks!" For both men this bout could signify their last chance at capturing a WORLD title, as well as these warrior's careers hanging in the balance. Fans watching, in attendance at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA as well as around the WORLD LIVE on GFL.tv, can expect nothing less than blood, sweat, and tears from both competitors on December 18th! In the co-main event, highly touted & undefeated prospect Miguel Cartagena, out of Philadelphia, PA, will take on the very rugged Eduardo Valenzuela (5-3-1) in a 6 round super flyweight bout. Cartagena, who is looking to notch his 4th victory in 2013, does not know much about his opponent but that is a usual problem in his division. "I don't know anything at all. I didn't even look into him. It doesn't matter to me. I am confident in my training both mentally and psychically. The division I am in, super flyweight, opponents always get switched up so I am use to not knowing. " A win for Cartagena is important because he will be capping off a great year while allowing him to go full steam ahead into 2014 which he hopes is a busy one. "Keep on fighting. Try to get more fights. Train harder. Keep on fighting until the next level," says Cartagena on his plans for 2014. His opponent Eduardo Valenzuela (5-3-1) is a very tough fighter. He has yet to be knocked out in his 9 fight career suffering only close decision loses. Tonight's fight will mark only the 2nd time Valenzuela has fought outside of Mexico. To be victorious tonight, with the world watching LIVE on GFL.tv, could open a lot of doors for him allowing him to fight in the US more. Not only will it help in securing fights in the US but a win will be a huge step to rebuilding his young career. With a lot on the line for both fighters, fans in attendance as well as those watching around the world LIVE on GFL.tv, can expect both fighters to give their blood, sweat, and tears for an all action fight! In heavyweight action, undefeated prospect Mark Rideout (4-0) will face Eric Newell (7-2-1) in a rematch from their 4 round war in February. Rideout, who turned pro in 2012, has been impressive in 4 straight victories in his young career. Never in an easy fight, Rideout looks to cap off 2013 with an exclamation point by defeating Newell for the 2nd time. Newell, who specifically requested this rematch, has been vying for revenge in his highly contested split decision loss in his 1st bout with Rideout. With revenge on his mind expect Newell to leave it all in the ring as well a Rideout who will be looking to keep his undefeated record in tact. In other heavyweight action, Dante Selby (2-0-1) will take on Randy Easton (1-2-1) over the course of 4 rounds in a fight that is not expected to reach the distance. Th undefeated Dante Selby, who trains out of Danny Garcia's Gym, looks to extend his winning streak to 3 since turning pro back in April, While Easton looks to capitalize on his 1st victory on 11/30 by defeating Selby in Bethlehem. Both men pack a hard punch so don't blink because you could miss a highlight reel knock out. Finally rounding out the card, the ALWAYS exciting Travis Thompson (4-11-3) will take on Julius Leegrand (4-1-1). Thompson is coming off a hard fought draw on November 30th to Emil Rodriguez (0-3-1) and is looking for a victory to close out 2013. Thompson is a fan favorite who is always all action and will once again be looking to impress tonight to set up another pay day in 2014. Justin Leegrand is coming off his only loss in 2013 to Micah Branch (1-8-1). Before that Leegrand had not fought since a draw to Justin Johnson (1-1-1) in November in 2010. A once promising prospect, Leegrand knows he must win here to keep himself as a prospect. This bout will surely keep boxing fans, in attendance as well as those watching LIVE and around the WORLD on GFL.tv, on the edge of their seat. Ticket are still available but almost sold out.
