Queensland?s featherweight champion ?The Great White? Brayd Smith steps out of his comfort zone
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 02 Dec 2013
Twenty-two-year old Queensland featherweight, ?The Great White? Brayd Smith, is ready for the toughest fight of his career against his more experienced Indonesian opponent, Erick Diaz Siregar, in Melbourne on Wednesday, 11 December.
His manager, Brendon Smith rates the 39-year-old Siregar as ?a tough and wily opponent who will bring all the tricks he has learnt over the years to win this fight?.
?This is a big jump for Brayd, because Siregar has fought some of the best in the world, but we feel he is ready. Brayd is going to have to stay on his own game, because Siregar will be using every antic to take him out of his rhythm."
Smith has won his last seven professional fights, with six by KO and is fresh from his October win against Gabriel Altarejos, which gave him the WBC World Youth Silver featherweight title.
?Brayd is not going into this fight with just one game plan. He is naturally a tall, rangy, hard hitter, but we have had him working a lot on fighting in close, outside, and rallying so that he is ready to adjust."
Smith said Braydon has just finished his 3rd year in law and is looking forward to his 4th year at Queensland University next year.
?The timing for this fight is perfect because the pressure of studying and exams is gone.?
Smith is fighting on the under-card for the main event, in which World IBF #1 Sam Soliman takes on Les Sherington, in his journey to clinch a World Title bout next year.
