Nonito Donaire, Jr. has received some criticisms about his poor performance in a loss over his rival Guilleremo Rigondeaux last 7 months ago. Now, he has an upcoming fight against the Armenian gladiator Vic Darchinyan on Nov. 9, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The same opponent he knocked out in the fifth round of the bout on July 7, 2007 at the Harbour Yard Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In many occasions, the Armenian boxer said he wanted to derail the career of the Filipino icon to avenge his defeat. But coach Robert Garcia, the trainer of Donaire, Jr. was confident that his ward will win and bounce back after his unanimous loss to Rigondeaux on April 13. Donaire, Jr. told the Los Angeles Times, ?It?s a fight that needs to happen.? He was referring over proposal for rematch against the Cuban boxer icon. However, some people say that he (Donaire) shouldn?t underestimate the Armenian fighter because he is still a dangerous foe and poses a great threat for him. Also, this time the Armenian ?Raging Bull? would show the world how strong he has become over the past years. Die hard Darchinyan fans believe that their superstar has now the blueprints on how to redeem himself and therefore is going to prevail over Donaire, Jr. In the latest update, Donaire, Jr. is spotted training with his father Nonito Donaire, Sr. who has helped him achieve several wins when he started his professional career as a boxer. The father and son bonding inside Garcia?s Oxnard gym has made the fighter more inspired than ever before. The question now is, can Donaire, Jr. overthrow the Armenian rival once again and reclaim his pound-for-pound throne over the Cuban ?The Jackal? Rigondeaux? That?s for all of us to see on his future fight. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Alon Calinao Dy. |
