JACK ASIS WANTS MICHAEL KATSIDIS' COMEBACK FIGHT PhilBoxing.com Thu, 10 Oct 2013 ![]() Katsidis. Jack ?The Assassin? Asis has stated this morning that he wants to be the man in the opposite corner if Michael Katsidis makes a ring return in the Garden City. Asis? ears pricked this morning after waking and reading in the newspaper that Toowoomba star Michael Katsidis is eyeing off a ring return in his hometown in February against Brett Smith. What followed was a phone call to his manager Brendon Smith in which Asis asked the question which was at the front of his mind, ?What about me?? ?I read the newspaper this morning and quickly called my manager,? said Jack Asis. ?I asked my manager what about me I would like to fight Michael, I knocked out Brett Smith, I knocked him down 6 times in that fight.? ?I respect Michael a lot and I love boxing. I want to give the people good fights and I think this is a fight everyone wants to see.? Asis has 8 straight wins and a very controversial draw in his last nine bouts while Katsidis has been inactive since April 2012 but is on the comeback trail. Brendon Smith who as the current trainer and manager of Jack Asis and the former trainer and manager of Michael Katsidis says he is between a rock and a hard place but he wouldn?t be doing his job if he didn?t try and make this fight. ?It is a difficult situation,? said Smith. ?Myself and Michael achieved a lot together before he sacked me, we are still on good terms however this is sport and I wouldn?t be doing my job as a manager if I did not bring this to attention.? ?I respect Jack and his decision and yes this fight makes a lot of sense.? ?I also respect Michael very much from our long term relationship and our friendship after our split.? ?This is a proposed fight, I have a good relationship with the WBC and the WBC Asia title is vacant so it could be a good opportunity for the winner of this fight to go in to the top ten in the world ratings as well as fill any stadium here in Toowoomba.? ?It would definitely be a historical fight here in the Garden City.? ![]() |
