BUM DECISION DEPRIVES PACQUIAO SPARRING PARTNER BELTRAN A WORLD TITLE

A bum decision has deprived Manny Pacquiao?s sparring partner Raymund Beltran of the WBO lightweight title when the judges scored the fight a twelve round split draw which enabled Ricky Burns to retain his title before a hometown crowd in Glasgow, Scotland.
Despite dropping Burns in the 8th round and busting his jaw early in the fight and clearly dominating most of the rounds American judge Carlos Ortiz scored the fight 115-112 for Burns while Andre Van Grootenbruel had Beltran the winner 115-113 while British judge Richie Davies scored the fight even at 114-114.
BoxingScene.com scored it by a comfortable 116-111 margin for Beltran while even the British Sky Sports commentators scored the fight for Beltran.
Keir Murray of BBC Sport reported ?the bulk of the passionate Glasgow crowd was left stunned as Beltran departed the ring with only a draw after dominating Burns.?
BoxingScene.com said ?Beltran is going back to the States, standing out as a real winner albeit without a belt.?
Beltran had Burns on the ropes and connected with several hard body shots through rounds 3, 4 and 5 although Burns used quick combinations to claw back in rounds six and seven as Beltran eased off a little.
The tough Pacquiao sparring partner who had caused some concern in the Burns camp by the fact that he had been a regular sparring partner of the "Fighter of the Decade" Pacquiao cracked Burns with a left hook to the body and another to the jaw that dropped the champion in round eight. Burns tried desperately to fight back and although round nine was close,Beltran took command with Burns grabbing and holding every time Beltran cornered Burns on the ropes.
BoxingScene reported that controversial referee Phil Edwards did his share for the hometown champion by failing to penalize Burns for his constant grabbing and holding. With the hugely controversial decision Burns record now stands at 36-2-1, 11 KO's while Beltran's record is 28-6-1, 17 knockouts.
