GROUND AND POUND VII AT THE CEBU COLISEUM AUG. 31 PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 Aug 2013 CEBU CITY ? Fight fans here in Cebu are in for a rare mixed martial arts treat ? heavyweights ? this Saturday when Chris Thompson Brooks of Yawyan Ardigma of Cebu goes up against Lloyd Anthony Abucayan of Beefit Pythons Pit of Davao City in the main event of Ground and Pound VII ? RESOLUTION. Brooks, a British fighter based in Cebu, weighed in at 256 lbs while Abucayan tipped the scales at 206 during the official weigh-in held Friday afternoon at the Yawyan Ardigma Gym supervised by Rolando Mendoza and Glen Agena of GAB-Cebu. Also set to see action are lightweights Lorde Yamit (159lbs) of Butuan Extreme MMA and Robert Serdone (150lbs) of Redneos Iron of Talisay City. Flyweight Victor Torre (124.5 lbs) of Azkal Bullies MMA will clash with James ?Spider? Serenio of Team Soma of Mandaue City. The three pairs of MMA artists mentioned above will clash for the Ground and Pound titles in their respective divisions. CEBU SPORTSWRITER ENTERS MMA RING FOR THE SECOND TIME Lemuel ?Musang? Maglinte, who writes boxing and MMA articles for the Freeman and Banat, will engage former pro boxer and experienced MMA fighter John Edu Torbiso . Maglinte, who fights out of Yawyan Ardigma, weighed in at 116 lbs while Torbiso, representing Durex Dragons KBC, was at 119.5 lbs. Maglinte stopped Zoren Pescador in his MMA debut last year and earned the admiration of the sports scribes here in the boxing capital of the Philippines. Maglinte was also victorious in his kickboxing match last May in San Remigio, Cebu against Elmer Dakay. Renan Noblefranca of Yawyan will fight Marjun Pomento of Team MUMMA, CDO in a five round YFCC featherweight kickboxing encounter. Noblefranca was at 120 lbs while Pomento weighed 121. Completing the cast are Geronimo Etac (Yawyan) vs Arnel Ylanan (Project X), Mark Araneta (Team UMMA) vs Rik Cubillas (Butuan Extreme), Maxelito Yong (OneCebu MMA) vs Frederick Lim (DEFTAC Dumaguete), Erving Mosico (DEFTAC) vs Rocky Batolbatol (MUMMA), Moises Nudalo vs Urtych Alarin (Extreme MMA Butuan), Alex Abraham (Seldef MMA) vs Perkins Calixto (Azkal Bullies MMA), Ralp Arcayan (SOMA) vs Jess Catayas (REDNEOS) and Leo Rodrigo (Project X) vs Ismael Gomez (MUMMA). Fight time at the Cebu Coliseum is 8PM.  |
