STA CRUZ STOPS TERRAZAS ? WILL MARES BE NEXT?

PhilBoxing.com

With the cold wind now blowing in from the nearby ocean dramatically dropping the temperature at the StubHub Center to the ?I need a jacket level," the supporting main event and first televised fight got started. First up on ShowTimeSports were Victor Terrazas of Guadalajara, MX (37-2-1, 23 KO) versus Leo Santa Cruz of Los Angeles (24-0-1, 14KO) The fight is for the WBC Super bantamweight title (top photo).

The fight was heavily hyped by the promoters and the two gallant warriors did not disappoint. Word is the winner may face Abner Mares if Mares can get by Jhonny Gonzalez tonight.

It was a battle from the get go with each fighter giving their best to the delight of the predominantly Latino crowd.

Sta. Cruz however showed more speed and accuracy and in the end Sta Cruz managed to pull it off dropping Terrazas twice enroute to a TKO victory 2:09 of the third round.

Now the big question is will Sta Cruz be given a shot at Mares?

But that is thinking too far ahead. Mares is about to battle Jhonny Gonzales in the main event coming up.

Osrosco vs Hernandez.

Undefeated junior welterweight Antonio Orosco of San Diego (17-0-0, 13KO) kept is winning record without a defeat but struggled against Ivan Hernandez of Miami, FL (29-3-0, 22KO) in the first round. He finally hit pay dirt early in the second round and dropped Hernandez. Hernandez beat the count but appeared done for the night. From there it was just a matter of time. Orosco dropped him again in the third and referee Raul Cais Sr waved off the fight. Time 1:39 of round 3.

In the swing bout before the TV shows started, Julian Ramirez of East LA (9-0-0,3KO) beat previously undefeated Abraham Rubio of Agua Prieto, MX (3-1-1, 1KO).. The fight was like a bout between two energizer bunnies. As soon as the bell rang to start the fight the two gladiators started swinging until the fight was stopped with Rubio backed against the ropes in his own corner. Referee Raul Cais Jr kept sharp eyes on the two boxers who were exchanging bombs and when Ramirez turned the tide, he stepped in and waved it off. Time was 2:58 of the first round.
