TELEVISA AND FOX DEPORTES TO AIR SHOWDOWNS BETWEEN MEXICO AND THE PHILIPPINES ON AUG. 24

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, August 23 - On Saturday, August 24, warriors from the boxing-rich countries of Mexico and the Philippines will square off against each other in one of the best cards of the summer, with two championship bouts being featured on Televisa and FOX Deportes from the Lienzo Charro Los Tamaulipecos in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

In the 12 round main event, Mexico City's Armando "Cobra" Santos defends his NABF Flyweight Championship against Benguet's Roilo "The Phoenix" Golez, while the 10 round co-feature sees Mexico City's Ganigan "El Zurdo" Lopez clashing with Baguio City's Mateo "Waray Warrior" Handig for the vacant WBC International Silver Minimumweight Championship

Plus, Guadalajara's Miguel Angel "Ranita" Gonzalez faces off with Jairo "Peligroso" Hernandez in a 10 round featherweight bout, and Guadalajara's Ramon "Inocente" Alvarez faces Ciudad Madero's Erik "El Brujo" Mireles in a 10 round super welterweight matchup.

This event is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6:00 p.m. CT. The FOX Deportes broadcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT in the United States and the Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 beginning at 10:30 p.m. CT in Mexico.

Nicknamed "Cobra" for his ability to strike from all angles, 25-year-old Armando Santos (11-3, 7 KO's) has won three straight since a 2011 loss to 20-0 Carlos Cuadras, decisioning Omar Lina and knocking out Edgar Gonzalez and Herald Molina. On August 24, he'll hope to extend that streak to four. Looking to stop the NABF champ from retaining his title will be tough Filipino battler Roilo Golez (14-10-1, 5 KO's), whose seven year pro career has already seen him compete in seven title fights, experience he plans on bringing into the ring against Santos.

Veteran southpaw Ganigan Lopez (22-5, 15 KO's) is a former WBC Latino and WBC Silver champion known for his impressive power and ring savvy. And with wins in nine of his last 10 bouts, the 31-year-old is on the verge of making some noise in the minimumweight division. On August 24, he will meet up with the surging "Waray Warrior," 23-year-old Mateo Handig (13-5, 7 KO's). Handig has won five straight, proving that he's peaking at the right time for this pivotal meeting with Lopez.

23-year-old Miguel Angel Gonzalez (19-5-1, 10 KO's) has been in with top-quality opposition for years now, and after bouncing back from a two-fight losing streak in 2012 with three consecutive victories - all by knockout - "Ranita" is ready to charge into the top 20. Standing in his way is Jairo "Peligroso" Hernandez, a former challenger for the WBC Silver Title who has faced six unbeaten opponents in his last 10 fights.

Unbeaten in nine of his last 10, including a July knockout of Marco Hernandez, 27-year-old Ramon "Inocente" Alvarez (15-4-2, 8 KO's) is looking forward to staying on the right track as he begins to seek big fights at 147 pounds. The ambitious Guadalajara native's August 24 bout certainly fits the bill as he faces hungry 24-year-old Erik "El Brujo" Mireles (6-2, 1 KO) in what should be an entertaining 10 round matchup.
