BRAYD SMITH VS GABRIEL ALTAREJOS APPROVED BY WBC FOR WORLD YOUTH SILVER TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

The World Boxing Commission (WBC) has confirmed that undefeated Toowoomba featherweight and current WBF Asia Pacific Youth champion ?The Great White? Brayd Smith will take on rising Filipino star and former WBC Interim Youth World Champion Gabriel ?Wonderboy? Altarejos for their vacant WBC World Youth Silver title on October 4 at Rumours International, Toowoomba.
Altarejos, who boasts a record of 12 wins (4KO) with only 2 defeats and one draw, is of the famous Elorde boxing stable in the Philippines.

Smith, who has a record of 6 wins (5KO) with no defeats, is coming off an 8 round all action title fight in March this year, where he claimed the WBF Asia Pacific Youth title when his opponent?s corner threw in the towel with just 23 seconds to go in the bout.

However this victory came at a price leaving Smith with a fractured right hand and a torn flexor tendon from his right wrist, an injury which saw Smith take a forced lay off for several months. Now though he feels his hand is as good as ever and is excited at the opportunity of moving back into a title fight.

?I?m thrilled to be given the opportunity to fight for such a prestigious title,? said Brayd Smith.

?The WBC is one of if not the biggest sanctioning body in the world so to be given the chance to fight for their World Youth Silver title in front of my home crowd is extremely exciting?.
While he is excited, he knows he has a big task ahead of him.
?This is definitely the biggest test for me so far however I feel like I?m improving in the gym everyday and we are working very hard to make sure I bring the belt home?.

Trainer and manager Brendon Smith was also excited for the upcoming bout.

?This is a very big title fight and a huge task for Brayd? said Brendon Smith.

?However we are having a great preparation and I feel like it is a task he is up for?.

This fight will take place as the co feature of Smithy?s Brings the big fights 5 on October 4. This card will feature 5 title fights highlighted by ?The Assassin? Jack Asis as he takes on Japans Hirohito Fukuhara for the WBC Asia continental super featherweight title. Also featuring will be Toowoomba?s action hero ?Iron? Will Young as he takes on Matt Sedan for the Queensland featherweight title. English import and now adopted local Darren ?Assa Marra? Askew will take on Mark Ramirez for the Queensland junior welterweight title and Kyle ?Tank? Teer will also fight for the Queensland lightweight title. As well as this, the much anticipated rematch between Tressa Lindenberg and Vicky Gilbert will also feature for the Queensland corporate title.

Promoter Brendon Smith believes that this card featuring a regional title, a world youth title and three state titles is among one of his biggest.

?We have five titles in one night,? said Smith.

?I believe that this is the biggest card we have done in Toowoomba. Each fight will be a 50/50 fight and we can expect that each boxer will grow and extra arm and a leg to try and take those belts home."

Tickets are on sale now and will remain the same price as the previous events at $75 for ringside seats and $45 for general seats.
