NBA -- Warriors host Lakers on Oct. 30

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Golden State Warriors will welcome the Los Angeles Lakers on October 30 when their 2013-14 NBA season opens at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
After dealing with the Lakers, who may or may not have the services of mega star Kobe Bryant (blown Achilles heel), the Warriors will travel to Los Angeles to play the L.A. Clippers in a nationally-televised Halloween night offering.
A highlight in Golden State's schedule is a Christmas game against the Clippers at home at the Oracle. With last season?s playoff results, the stakes and popularity of the Warriors have gone up. General manager Bob Myers said ?We want to have high stakes, we want to be a team that fans have expectations in regards to success. We want to be a team that the NBA highlights. That?s where we want to be.?
After a sterling playoffs performance plus a Las Vegas Summer League title, the Warriors appear headed in the right direction.
The Warriors have new faces in their roster. Power forward Marreese Speights was inked to a three-year contract, a move that is expected to blunt the loss of Carl Landry.
Festus Ezeli is on reserve for half of the season due to a knee injury so the Warriors signed 17-year veteran Jermaine O'Neal to a one-year $2 million deal.
With the loss of Jarrett Jack to free agency, Kent Bazemore looms as the back-up point guard for star shooting guard Stephen Curry. The spot could also go to Nemanja Nedovic, who missed the Summer League with a sprained ankle.
Warriors head coach Mark Jackson described the rookie guard as ?a really athletic Jose Calderon.? The Warriors also sign guard Toney Douglas who averaged 7.5 points, 2.1 assists, and 18.1 minutes per game. (LA)
