Rolly Lunas to fight August 21 in Tijuana, Mexico

PhilBoxing.com

Highly rated bantamweight champion Rolly Lunas (31-8-1, 19 KOs) will fight veteran Mexican German Meraz (43-26-1, 22 KOs) on August 21 in Tijuana, Mexico.

Lunas and his manager and trainer Vince Parra confirmed the fight to Philboxing.com and both expressed readiness to take the said fight.

?Nakahanda naman po ako na lumaban at masaya po ako kasi for almost 1 year ngayon ulit ako aapak ng lona,? Lunas stated

(I am ready to fight and I am happy that after almost a year, I am now about to step in the canvass.)

Lunas, who recently relocated to San Diego this year after a seven year stint in Japan, has been training under Parra since April. He has provided sparring services to his stable mates in addition to regaining his conditioning after almost a year of absence in the ring.

Parra told Philboxing.com that the native of Tabaco City, Albay has been ?hard at work for four months while waiting for fights.?

?We can't wait anymore so I set this up to get busy. We are hoping to challenge anyone after this at 118 or 122,? Parra added.

Lunas who held a regional title from Asia, the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight belt, is currently ranked number 5 by the WBC in its latest ranking. He was stripped of his OPBF belt according to Parra, after he moved to the United States.

?He came here to fight the best from Mexico and the US, He would love to fight (Shinsuke) Yamanaka but we know he will never leave Japan and Teiken has refused a fight against Lunas. Randy Caballero is a good undefeated contender here in So Cal who we?d really like to fight him or Chris Avalos at 122. Both great fights,? said Parra.

But Lunas is not looking to that scenario just yet as he aims to win his debut in the West in two weeks? time.

?Pagsisikapan ko po ito talaga,? stated the 29 year old Lunas.

(I will really work hard for this fight.)

Meraz, 27, won his last two fights in Mexico and has shared the ring in the past with two-time world champ, Gerry Penalosa in a losing bid in 2009 in Cebu City.
