JACK ASIS HEADLINES 'SMITHY BRINGS THE BIG FIGHTS 5' PhilBoxing.com Wed, 17 Jul 2013 ![]() Smithy?s Promotions are proud to announce the next installment of the ?Smithy Brings the Big fights? boxing series. After 4 extremely successful promotions, the fifth event promises to be the biggest yet. In a night featuring five professional title fights, the card which will take place on October 4 at Rumours International will be headlined by Toowoomba based, Filipino star, Jack ?The Assassin? Asis. Asis will fight for the WBC Asia Continental title against Japanese boxer Hirohito Fuku Hara. Asis is on an 8 fight winning streak beating fighters from all over the world. ?I?m very excited for the opportunity to fight for the WBC asia continental title,? said Asis. However, he has no easy task with Hirohito bringing a lot of experience from Japan. ?The Japanese fighters always fight with honour and you can expect a war between Jack and Hirohito on October 4?. Also fighting on the night is undefeated rising star ?The Great White? Brayd Smith. Smith who is coming back after a 4 and a half month lay of from fracturing his hand and tearing the flexor tendon from his wrist in his last outing will move back in to a title fight. The current WBF Asia Pacific youth champion, will this time have the opportunity to add another belt to his collection when he fights for the WBC World Silver youth title. The search is now on for his opponent. Rounding out the five titles and adding to what is already shaping up to be a terrific card, will be 3 Queensland titles. The Featherweight, Lightweight and Junior Welterweight titles will all be on the line on October 4. Toowoomba?s own and crowd favourite ?Iron? Will Young who boasts one of the most exciting styles in Australia will have the opportunity to claim state featherweight honours when he steps in the ring against Brisbane based Jarret Owen. Owen also has an all action style and will no doubt be ready for war when he comes to try and disappoint Toowoomba fans. English import Darren ?Assa Marra? Askew, who now calls Toowoomba home will fight in a much anticipated rematch against current Junior Welterweight Queensland champion Mark Ramirez. Askew and Ramirez fought a hard four rounds on Smithy Brings the big fights 4 where Askew clinched a narrow points decision. This time however the Queensland title is on the line and over 8 rounds there is a sure bet that Ramirez will be back looking for revenge. In the last title fight for the night Warwick?s Kyle ?The Tank? Teer will take on Bribie Islands Ty Gilchrist for the Queensland lightweight title. These pair have met twice before with Gilchrist taking a narrow points decision. It was their last fight, which was fought to an 8 round draw for the state title, that left the fans wanting more. In a fight which was voted the Queensland fight of the year, we can expect Teer and Gilchrist to start where they left off on October 4. Promoter Brendon Smith believes that this card featuring two regional and three state titles is among one of his biggest. ?We have five titles in one night,? said Smith. ?I believe that this is the biggest card we have done in Toowoomba. Each fight will be a 50/50 fight and we can expect that each boxer will grow and extra arm and a leg to try and take those belts home." Tickets go on sale today and will remain the same price as the previous events at $75 for ringside seats and $45 for general seats. ![]() |
