Villanueva wins WBO Asia Pacific superflyweight crown By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Jul 2013 ![]() MANILA (PNA) -- Arthur "King" Villanueva is now the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super flyweight champion after stopping Mexican rival Arturo "Fuerte" Badillo in the fourth round in the main supporting card of the Pinoy Pride XXI on Saturday night at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino in Paranaque City. Villanueva landed countless left-right combinations to force international referee Danrex Tapdasan to stop the fight in 2:03 of the fourth round. Badillo tried to fought back in the early rounds but was caught several times with Villanueva's stinging jabs. He was also hurt on the head in an accidental headbutt in the second round. Blood continued to flow in the next round and the fight was stopped momentarily for the doctor to check the wound. In the fourth round, Villanueva saw his opportunity for a knockout after he caught Badillo at his own corner. "Salamat sa Diyos, kampeon na talaga ako," said Villanueva after the fight. He also thanked the ALA Promotions under its president Michael Aldeguer for giving him a chance to fight and the ABS-CBN TV led by its president Charo Santos for "supporting the Pinoy boxers." Earlier, former world-rated AJ "Bazooka" Banal also of the ALA Boxing Stable finally bounced back in his winning form by successfully making a comeback via a second round technical knockout victory against Mexican Abraham "Cholo" Gomez. Gomez, who tried to wrestle Banal while both of them down on the canvas, decided to quit fighting at the end opf the second round.
