ZHONG RETAINS TITLE IN DUBAI, BEATS CUELLO BY MAJORITY DECISION

China's Xiong Zhao Zhong retained his WBC minimumweight title by winning via majority decision over Filipino challenger Denver Cuello Friday night (Saturday morning in Manila) at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, UAE. Scores were 115-112, 113-110 and 113-113 according to Boxrec.com in favor of the defending champion.
Sketchy reports coming from Dubai indicate that Cuello scored a knockdown against Zhong in the first round but apparently Cuello hurt his right shoulder that severely limited his punching ability. Zhong, using speed and volume punching, coasted to pile up points the rest of the night while Cuello fought to survive.
