The quiet town of M'lang located in the periphery of the biggest marshland in Southeast Asia, the Liguasan Marsh, welcomes home its first world boxing champion today, Edrin "The Sting" Dapudong in a grand celebration.
M'lang Mayor Joselito Pinol will officiallly welcome the new International Boxing Organization (IBO) Junior Bantamweight Champion in the Mayor's Office at 2 p.m.
Mayor Pinol will later present Dapudong to the Municipal Council which is expected to pass a Sangguniang Bayan Resolution congratulating the new boxing champion and thanking him for the honor he brought to the town and the Province of North Cotabato.
At about 4 p.m., a motorcade will be held in honor of the boxing champion after which the townsfolk will gather in the old municipal gymnasium and watch the video of Dapudong's fight.
The 27-year-old farmer's son will be interviewed this morning by the Notre Dame Broadcasting Corp., the biggest radio network owned by the Catholic Church in North Cotabato.
This morning, he will go hometo his village, Pag-asa, M'lang, where his family including his ailing mother, Emily, will welcome him home.
Dapudong, a product of the grassroots boxing program started by former Gov. Manny Pinol in 1998, is the first world boxing champion from North Cotabato.
