A POSSIBLE BIG BREAK: FARENAS WILL TRAIN IN THE U.S. AFTER EGERA FIGHT
By Chito Yu Katangkatang PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Apr 2012

Michael Farenas has always been busy in the gym. He is always in shape just like his mentor Gerry Penalosa whose motto is "a boxer should always be prepared to fight anytime." On April 21, Farenas will engage with Jason Egera for a non-title featherweight match up under the Dugong Kampeon card in Mandaue City. But a possible bigger break is in line for the Sorsogon Boxer.
According to Farenas' mentor and adviser Gerry Penalosa, a possible showdown with Daniel Ponce de Leon or Adrien Broner are being negotiated. The fight can land in the undercard of the Mayweather-Cotto fight. "Nothing is final but we are talking with the De Leon and Broner camps. I hope Mike will get a fight with either of the above guys. Win or lose, it will be good for his career. After his April 21 fight, Mike will leave for the US to start training for his big fight," Penalosa told Philboxing.
"I have always been waiting for a good break. I got sad when the Garcia fight was given to another fighter. I hope I can this break this time. But then I cannot get past Egera. This may look like a tune up but Jason is a big fighter and he is a former champ. I know this will be a good fight," Farenas told this scribe.
Farenas has been long deserving of a big break. He has beaten marquee opponents and is certainly ripe for a world title. His win against tough Mexican Fernando Beltran can be a good basis. Let us hope for the best and wait and see what boxing icon and promoter Gerry Penalosa can bring from the negotiation table for his protege.
