WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE JARO STABLE?

PhilBoxing.com

The year 2012 has been a good year so far for the Aljoe Jaro Stable of Binangonan Rizal. Sonny Boy Jaro-Singwangcha scored one of the biggest upsets in boxing as he dethroned Thai Legend Pongsaklek Wonjongkam thus becoming the instant Ring Magazine and WBC World Flyweight Champion. Another stable gem is WBC Silver Minimumweight World Champion Denver Cuello-Singwangcha. Cuello will fight Ganigan Lopez on May 19 in Mexico for a World Title Eliminator while Jaro is set to defend his title in Japan against number one contender Toshiyuki Igarashi in July.

Aljoe Jaro does not only manage the two champions, he is also their trainer and mentor. It may not be a common knowledge to boxing fans but Jaro who is also a former boxer is one of the best boxing trainers in the country and in Asia. Boxing stalwarts and pundits can attest to this fact. After retirement from boxing got married with his wife Alice who was also a boxing fan. The couple decided to invest whatever savings and properties they had in promoting and managing their own rosters of boxers and in putting up their own boxing gym. Aljoe Jaro may have been bombarded with issues in the way he managed his boxers, but there was never a question with his ability to motivate and bring his fighters into their best shapes. He can make world champions and top contenders. The careers of Abe Concepcion, Florante Condes, Denver Cuello and Sonny Boy Jaro are living testaments to this fact.

According to Sonny Boy, "After I left the Stable of Kuya Aljoe (Jaro), I only fought for paychecks, I have been with other trainers but nobody has ever trained my like him (Jaro). He knows how to figure out the opponent and maximize the use of my advantage and exploit my opponent's weaknesses. He knows good conditioning. His style is neither old school nor contemporary but it simply works."

Cuello also added, "Kuya (Aljoe Jaro) is a total work horse. He manages me. He trains me with the mitts, he directs my routines and diet. He even cooks for our food in the stable. He also serves as our cook when we fight abroad. I think his secret in training boxers is not only in the techniques. He is a great motivator. When a boxer is motivated, he can work so hard without being pushed to do so. Yes we do have secret techniques inside the stable but for me, it is his motivation and guidance that brought me to where I am now."

Cuello-Singwangcha who recently toyed Indon Champ Kid Suryana is at the more intense phase of training. The exact City of the fight has not been determined according to Canelo Promotions Executive Hector Zapari, but the fight will definitely be in Mexico. "Hindi po ako nag lie-low kahit nitong Holy Week. Todo ensayo po talaga kasi magaling yung Ganigan Lopez. (Training went on even during Holy Week. Ganigan Lopez is a no joke boxer. I need to prepare for him.)", Cuello told this scribe.

Jaro-Singwangcha has also never refrained from training since his Thailand victory. According to Sonny Boy, "I never even went home to Silay, I have been in Rizal and did training every day. I want to be in shape and ready to fight any day. People look at me as another Cinderella man who might be champ overnight. That mine is an instant fame which can suddenly vanish. That, any boxer can easily grab my belts. Well let me tell them this, My knockout of Pongsaklek was not pure luck. I knew I will knock him out and I trained hard for it. If they think I will just hand over my belt to Igarashi, then see me fight on July. I am making sure this is not just a dream. Right now, flyweight wannabe champs are calling me out. Well, you are all welcome to fight me. Just line up and wait. I cannot fight all of you at the same time. I am working hard to be a champ for a long time. I hope people will respect me more if I successfully defend my belt in Japan."

Aljoe, Sonny Boy and Denver who recently made a courtesy call to Vice President Jejomar Binay have another good news for the fans. If Sonny retains his belt in July and Denver bags the regular WBC Belt by August, Binay has committed to supporting the staging of a back to back World Title fight in Makati City which will feature the World Title Defense fights of Denver and Sonny Boy.

Champions are made by a combination of the boxer's raw talent, skills, and attitude. Manny Pacquiao could have been a great world champ regardless of who trained him. But Freddie Roach guided him to where he is now. There is no doubt Denver and Sonny Boy both possess the natural talent. But their team work with their manager made them who they are now nd may take them to greater heights.

In closing, Aljoe Jaro states, "I have not been and will not be a perfect manager, I made mistakes in the past that's for sure. My boxers also made mistakes. But we all learn from our mistakes and they make us better. At this point in my career as manager, promoter and trainer, I want to make sure I do not commit the same mistakes and lose my boxers. I have Sonny and Denver right now. I am thankful God made them victorious and that we are a good team together. Some people are not happy to see me and my boxers succeed. I may have mistakes in the past but it is unfair if those mistakes which have been settled already will be kept on being used against me. Our boxers give pride to our Country. I hope that's the point that should matter to us over my personal flaws as a person. But that is how things are. Right now, my stable only intends to make world champions. I have accepted the fact that just as there are a lot of supporters, there are also a lot of crabs around. I hope we can collect all these crabs and make them into crab meat or "relleno". "
