DANSECO BAGS PHILIPPINE JUDGE OF THE YEAR AWARD ANEW PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Mar 2012 ![]() Rey Danseco. WELL-KNOWN Filipino boxing judge Rey Danseco has earned the distinction as the Best Philippine Boxing Judge of the Year after his outstanding job in six world, 21 local and international championships last year. Danseco, one of the neutral judges in the epic rematch of Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal for the WBC light heavyweight title last May in Montreal in Canada, will receive his two-year in a row award from the 12th Elorde Boxing Awards/Banquet of Champions on March 25 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, Metro Manila. Last year, pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao shared the limelight with Danseco in the stage of the annual Banquet of Champs. On Sunday, the native of Calauag, Quezon will be joined with Nonito Donaire, who will receive the accolade as one of the outstanding boxers of 2011. Joining Donaire and Danseco on top of the stage are are Donnie Nietes, a former four-time minimumweight titleholder who annexed the WBO light flyweight belt, WBO flyweight king Brian Viloria and former WBO super bantamweight queen Ana Julaton. WBC fight supervisor Mauricio Sulaiman openly commended Danseco?s performance as ?the most perfect scores? when he tallied 116-112 while the officials from Europe and Thailand saw it closer all in favor of Hopkins, who at 46 years old won by unanimous decision to make so much history in his storied 23-year career as the become the oldest man in boxing history to capture a world title. Danseco, who regularly judges WBC world title bouts in Japan and Thailand, holds the distinction as the first Filipino citizen to work ever in world championships in Mexico and Canada. On March 27 in Tokyo, Danseco took another chance to shine as one of the judges in the WBC super flyweight title fight between champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai and Japanese challenger Yota Sato. The winner in the 12-round contest is forced to put the title on the line against WBC silver super flyweight king Silvester Lopez of the Philippines until June this year. ![]() |
