Hurt Bulls play beautiful music against the Jazz By Ditthagan Trimas PhilBoxing.com Mon, 12 Mar 2012 ![]() CHICAGO -- The Bulls locker room resembled a makeshift ER Saturday night when four of their key players --- Luol Deng (wrist), CJ Watson (ankle), Rip Hamilton (shoulder) and Joakim Noah (flu) --- failed to suit up due to injuries. But thanks to their depth and the smoldering-hot shooting of Kyle Korver, the Bulls still handled the visiting Utah Jazz going away, 111-97, before another capacity crowd of 21,158 at the United Center along Madison street on the west side of this city. The young Jazz gamely fought the Bulls to a 22-22 standstill after one quarter of play, and their halftime deficit was a very manageable 48-41. But Chicago went on a 31-22 tear in the third quarter and when Korver nailed a 3-pointer at the 6:15 mark of the final period, the Bulls were safely beyond reach, 95-75. "People expect us to slump and lose a lot of games because a lot of guys are banged up," Bull guard Ronnie Brewer told the Chicago Tribune. "But it's a testament to other guys' hard work that we continue to step in and play well." Korver was one of those guys who played well, extremely well. The 6-foot-7, 212-pound guard-forward swished the nets for 26 points. The Ashton Kutcher look-alike drained 10-of-16 field goals and 6-of-11 threes. He also had 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Korver had a horrific outing Thursday night when Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic came here and gave the Bulls their third loss at home with a 99-94 squeaker. At one critical point in that heartbreaker, Korver missed six straight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Saturday night, though, was redemption. "It was a little better than the other night, " he confessed. "I didn't sleep very well the last couple of nights. I just wanted to be very aggressive." Derrick Rose didn't have to carry the Bulls on this one, but the reigining MVP left his mark in the game with 24 points and 13 assists while Carlos Boozer had another monster night with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Brewer added 11 while seldom-used Jimmy Butler contributed 8. Without Noah, Utah outscored Chicago 62-42 down the paint, but the Bulls made up for that deficit by burning the Jazz 21-0 beyond the arc. The Jazz, who missed all of their three 3-point attempts, were also rebounded 42-31. Chicago made 43 of 77 shots for a high 55.8 percent clip while Utah only converted 40 of 85 shots for 47.1 percent. The Bulls easily won the assists battle 31-24 but they had one more turnover than the Jazz's total of 13. Paul Millsap led all that Jazz with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Al Jefferson had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Josh Howard finished with 15. (Ditthagan Trimas) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ditthagan Trimas. ![]() |
