BARBOSA, GOMEZ DRAW; PARAGUA PREVAILS IN NEW DELHI CHESS MEET By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 20 Jan 2012 Individual standings after seventh round: 6.5 points---GM John Paul Gomez (PHILIPPINES) 6.5 points---GM Oliver Barbosa (PHILIPPINES) 6 points---GM Mark Paragua (PHILIPPINES) 6 points---GM Andrei Deviatkin (Russia) 6 points---GM Evgeny Gleizerov (Russia) 6 points---IM Das Debashis (India) 6 points---IM Rathnakaran K (India) FILIPINO Grandmasters Oliver Barbosa and John Paul Gomez agreed to a silent draw in the seventh round of the 10th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament 2012 yesterday (Friday) at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex, Civil Lines in New Delhi, India. Barbosa and Gomez, both tallied 6.5 points to maintain their joint lead after seventh games of play. ?A draw is fine, so John Paul and Oliver both have a chance for the coveted title,? said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/Preisdent Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. GM Mark Paragua, on the other hand routed Zeng Chongsheng of China to scored 6 points and create a five-way tie for third place together with GMs Andrei Deviatkin and Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia, International Masters Das Debashis and Rathnakaran K of India. Another Filipino entry GM Richard Bitoon split the point with Prince Bajaj of India to raised his total 4.5 points, a good for share of 46th to 85th place. In the eight round, Barbosa battles Deviatkin in Board 1, Gomez opposite Paragua in Board 2 and Bitoon goes up against Karthikeyan Murali of India in Board 27. The India chess campaign is a part of the Philippine Team preparation for this year's 38th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey backed up by NCFP, PSC and POC.
