GOMEZ, BARBOSA SHARE LEAD IN NEW DELHI CHESS MEET

FILIPINO Grandmasters (GMs) John Paul Gomez and Oliver Barbosa toppled their respective rivals to share the lead in the sixth round of the 10th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament 2012 yesterday (Thursday) at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex, Civil Lines in New Delhi, India.
The Binan, Laguna native Gomez, who is fresh from a runner-up finish in the SDAT-RMK 4th Chennai Open Grand Master Chess Tournament in Chennai, India over the weekend, nipped IM Lalith Babu M R of India to raised his total 6 points, the same output of compatriot Barbosa. The Taytay, Rizal ace, meantime subdued GM Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan.
Rathnakaran K of India routed countryman fellow IM Thejkumar M S to scored 5.5 points for solo third place.
GM Mark Paragua of Bulacan defeated Narayanan S L of India for 5 points and climbed at 4th to 11th places in the company of Dzhumaev .
GM Richard Bitoon of Medellin, Cebu dealt Srikanth K of India to improved his record at 4 points, a good for a share of 40th to 89th place.
In the seventh round, Gomez battles Barbosa for the solo leadership board, Paragua opposite Zeng Chongsheng of China, and Bitoon will face Prince Bajaj of India.
The India chess campaign is a part of the Philippine Team preparation for this year's 38th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey backed up by NCFP, PSC and POC.
