ORGANIZATON OF CEBU PRO BOXING OFFICIALS REVIVED

Cebu City ? Cebu professional boxing officials have decided to bring back a dormant organization composed of referees, judges, time keepers, ring announcers and ring physicians. Members of the Cebu Professional Officials (CPBO) had a meeting after a Christmas party held at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB-VII) office. The gathering was lead by the organization?s President, boxing Judge Arnel Pasion and Vice-Pres. Referee Teddy Alivio. A total of ten officials attended the meeting.
The revival of the organization is rather timely considering that Cebu has been hosting big fight cards on an almost monthly basis. One of the aims of the officials is to have regular conferences, including pre-fight meetings, to correct mistakes made by officials, make objective assessments, and raise the ethical and professional standards of officiating in Cebu.
A seminar to upgrade referees, judges and ring physicians is being planned. This would involve officials from the GAB head office in Metro Manila and ideally foreign referees and judges who can give lectures and updates.
