GREED IS WHAT IS KILLING THE PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER FIGHT

Brad Cooney is right. Greed is the stuff that is killing the mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

But he stopped short of blaming all those concerned with the fight and put the whole load on Bob Arum.

That is totally unfair.

Cooney should have extended the ?greed factor? because Bob Arum is not the only one that is part and parcel of that.

First:- The Fans.

Fans have been saying that Arum has been blocking the fight and they are mad as hell.

But why should Arum listen to them when he has a business to run? Many of these fans do not directly contribute to the financial success of the fight. Many would not even buy PPV or come to see the fight live even if they live within driving distance of Las Vegas and instead will see the fight on live streaming or perhaps just visit friends who bought PPV and see it for free.

Some say even well connected and rich people from the Philippines who professes their love for what Pacquiao does will not spend money to fly to Las Vegas. Oh, unless they get it free from the Pacquiao.

All they want is to satisfy their lust for blood. They say- ?we want the fight? but they would not pay to see it.

Second:- Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza.

Of course these two gentlemen will prefer to have Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather.

It?s all about money.

The money they will make for themselves.

If Pacquiao fights Mayweather, these two gentlemen, owing to their jobs which incidentally they do well, will stand to make more money than they ever did as their pay according to well connected people, is based on percentage of the purse.

It would not take an Einstein to figure out that if they are being paid a fixed amount regardless of who Pacquiao fights, what they will be saying out there. Perhaps they may not even say anything. What for? It?s not lucrative for them.

If Pacquiao fights Marquez for the 4th time, these two will make money but not as much as they will make if Pacquiao fights Mayweather first.

If Paquiao loses to Marquez on a fourth fight, the Mayweather fight will be dictated by Mayweather. Pacquiao therefore stands to make less, ergo Roach and Ariza as well.

If Pacquiao fights Mayweather first and loses, the Marquez fight is still doable.

Therefore Roach and Ariza wants Mayweather first. They make tons of money if it goes and even if Pacquiao losses, they will still make more with a Marquez fight.

On the other side of the coin, if Pacquiao fights Marquez first and loses, the Mayweather fight will be less lucrative for Pacquiao and for the two.

That is why Roach and Ariza want Mayweather first and they are bucking the wishes of Bob Arum and are pushing Pacquiao to agree to fight Mayweather first.

It?s all about money folks.

Third:- The Golden Boy Promotions

Of course, the GBP wants a Pacquiao- Mayweather fight now instead of a Pacquiao-Marquez IV.

If the former happens, GBP will rake in tons of money as they represent Mayweather in the negotiations.

On the other hand, if the latter is the one that will be set, then GBP will again be seating on the outside looking in as Arum and company counts the money.

Fourth:- The Media

Many media people particularly those who are paid to write about boxing wants the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight instead of the Pacquiao-Marquez.

The reason is simple. They can write far more articles about the two than if the Pacquiao-Marquez happens for the fourth time. Everything has been written about about Pacquiao-Marquez and there is no more attractive stuff to write about it.

I bet even HBO will be hard pressed to come up with an interesting 24/7 if the fourth fight happens.

So there you are folks. As Cooney has written ? it?s about greed. Everyone who is part and parcel of boxing is guilty of it.

Not just Bob Arum.

But then again, that?s boxing!
