ABNER MARES TO GET THE TELEFUTURA "CLASSICS" TREATMENT ON NOVEMBER 25 PhilBoxing.com Wed, 23 Nov 2011 SEE THE BANTAMWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ON HIS ROAD TO THE TOP AGAINST YONNHY PEREZ AND JONATHAN ARIAS ON SPECIAL EDITION OF TELEFUTURA'S "S?LO BOXEO TECATE" LOS ANGELES, November 22 - In August of this year, 2004 Mexican Olympian Abner Mares struck gold as a professional when he defeated Joseph King Kong Agbeko for the IBF Bantamweight World Championship. As he prepares for his December 3 title defense rematch with Agbeko at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. which will be televised live on SHOWTIME, TeleFutura's "S?lo Boxeo Tecate Classics" will revisit two of Mares' memorable bouts on Friday, November 25, giving fans another look at one of boxing's most exciting young stars. The special presentation of "S?lo Boxeo Tecate," presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T, will air on TeleFutura at 12:30am ET/PT (11:30pm CT). The "Classics" main event will take fans back to May 22, 2010 when Mares stepped into the ring at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles for his first shot at a world title. Although he had to settle for a controversial draw against then IBF Bantamweight World Champion Yonnhy Perez, Mares showed off his championship character over 12 exciting rounds that put him on the list as one of the top bantamweights in the world. In the November 25 "Classics" co-feature, fans will see the then-rising star squaring off against fellow prospect Jonathan Arias at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, Calif. on June 27, 2008. Mares put on a stellar performance in defeating his dangerous 15-1 foe via a 10-round unanimous decision.
