Paquiao ? Marquez III Post-fight Response

PhilBoxing.com

Boxing fans who just watched the recent boxing match between Paquiao and Marquez should not be too emotional on their reaction to the final verdict especially the ones rooted for Marquez. As you could see the fight was again too close identical to the other past two fights. It?s because Marquez knows how to fight Paquiao and the latter is having problem dealing with counter-punchers with the likes of Marquez. Styles make fights. Marquez happened to have Paquiao?s number. Their kind of boxing style was made to make it difficult for both of them to figure how to knock each other out. If Marquez would only engage in a toe-toe-banging each other out- fight, until one of them drops to the canvas, then probably a far cry from the result.

Prior to the day of the fight, many boxing scribes (I can?t remember any one of them supported Marquez) predicted that Manny would end the match by knockout and most of them concluded it would be done before the second half (this is also some of the reasons why the odds went up to as high as 13 to 1 on the day of the fight) except for one person; Emanuel Steward. Steward is one of the famous boxing trainers and a future hall of famer. He?s also a resident HBO commentator. He did predict that the fight would go the distance and they will award the unanimous decision to Paquaio. Exactly what happens except it was a majority decision and not unanimous.

After the 12th round had passed, I know that Manny already won by either majority, split or unanimous decision. One, Manny is the more aggressive fighter. Second, Manny is the champion and Marquez was the challenger. Marquez should be initiating the fight and not just wait for Manny to first launch the attack and also he?s always backpedalling maintaining a far safe distance not to give Manny the leverage for a possible short quick left that caused his knockdown on the third round of their second meeting which is a very intelligent boxing move. Third is the economic and business side of boxing. I?m sure even If Marquez is leading a little bit in points, the award still goes to Manny (It?s a reality in the boxing business world and a no brainer. You could discuss that to me privately if you want more explanation). The most logical decision that Marquez could get is a draw and Manny will remain as the WBO champion and the result (if it?s a draw) will not hamper or abort the awaited super bout between Manny and Floyd. The business logic will dictate the judges to award the verdict to Manny. Although Manny didn?t win convincingly, common sense proclaimed he did win. There will be more whining, complaints and discontentment if they award it to Marquez and the Las Vegas business district will lose billions of dollars in income/profit in the future.

As you continue watching the fight, only Marquez does is waiting for Paquiao to launch his attack and answer it with his most essential and extremely sophisticated favorite weapon-counterpunching. Once in a while he boxed Manny with his accurate precision overhead right which resulted in some of those rounds favored for Marquez. I will give credit to Marquez for his excellent execution in detonating the overhead right. That overhead right created the cut inside Manny?s mouth. For some reason that excellent liver punch that Marquez preferred to do didn?t work this time for Paquiao. Most if not all were blocked by Manny?s right elbow. In one of the breaks during rounds, Buboy told Manny that after he let go of the straight left he should immediately move to the right which is 100% right. I don?t know why Freddie Roach didn?t capitalize on this. Of all the four or five times he did that he was on the safe angle all the time and Marquez could not find him.

They should review and study more the last fight and until they figure out that it?s really very easy to beat Marquez by capitalizing on that straight left and move to the right so that in no way Marquez could counter punch. They could do that the whole fight (straight left and move to the right) until Manny land a big and powerful left then unload those rapid and volume punching to finish the work very fast. Then, they?re ready to give Marquez a fourth episode.

The verdict is just right in all aspects.
