Four Warriors Boxing Fighters Score Impressive Victories Over the Weekend

PhilBoxing.com

Warriors Boxing President Leon Margules wishes to congratulate four of his fighters for scoring victories over the weekend.

On Saturday, November 5, on the undercard of Bute vs. Johnson at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, undefeated lightweight prospect Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (13-0-0, 10 KO) of Arroyo Naranjo, Cuba, scored the biggest victory of his young career, by destroying former NABA Champion Alejandro Barrera (21-9-0, 14 KO) of Mexico City by knockout early in the second round.

That same night at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, Polish bad boy Artur Szpilka (9-0, 7 KO's) stayed unbeaten by knocking out 292-pound Kentucky native David Saulsberry at 1:09 of round two. Szpilka suffered a surprise knockdown in the first, but recovered and sent Saulsberry to the canvas for good with a thudding body attack in the second.

And then the next night, on Sunday, November 6, at the "Let's Get Ready to Rock!" event at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, world-class super lightweight Victor "Mermelada" Cayo (27-2, 19 KOs) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, looked very sharp in scoring a KO 1 (1:37) over fellow Dominican Republican Nelson Sanchez in the evening's main event; and on the undercard, power-punching 21-year-old Puerto Rican lightweight Jorge "Catano" Maysonet Jr. (5-0, 4 KOs) punched his way to a TKO 1 (2:20) over Franklin Frias of Santo Domingo.

Barthelemy, now fighting from Miami, Florida, put on a tremendous display of his natural power. Midway through round one, he dropped Barrera with a left and then dropped him again at the bell to end the round. A right, left and right hook combination finished Barrera early in the second.

In his first fight since his ESPN2-televised war against fellow top contender Lamont Peterson in July, crowd favorite Victor Cayo showed no signs of slowing down, as he outclassed his Dominican countryman Sanchez, peppering him with a wide variety of shots until a perfect straight right hand ended it abruptly. Sanchez gamely tried to rise from the knockdown but his legs betrayed him.

Earlier, with his father, former world title challenger Jorge Luis Maysonet Sr., in his corner, the younger Maysonet did a lot of damage in a very shorty time, as he dropped Frias with a left hook to the body and then again with a left hook to the head before finishing him against the ropes with an extended barrage of power shots.

"All four fighters put on tremendous performances this weekend," said Warriors Boxing President, Leon Margules. "Rances made believers out of the fans in Quebec City with his tremendous power and Artur showed his toughness by getting off the floor to take out an opponent that was a lot bigger and showed up to fight. And he did it with bodyshots, which is not common for a heavyweight. And then the next night Victor Cayo showed he's still a force in the junior welterweight division by completely dominating his opponent before finishing him with a one-punch knockout and before that, Jorge Maysonet took everyone's breath away with his powerful bombs. I couldn't be happier with all three of them. It was a good weekend."
